The Merritt Island Dragon (Annie The Dragon)

Growing up in Brevard County, many of us would always look to the north when crossing the Eau Gallie causeway to see Annie the Dragon. This green lizard was at the very end point of Merritt Island and was the brainchild of two Merritt Island residents that came to be back in the 1970's.

This past weekend, while going through some old photos, I found some pictures my family and I took of Annie back in the late 80's or early 90's:

But over time, through hurricanes and lack of maintenance, Annie the Dragon sank into the lagoon. These posts are over 3 years old and I believe now Annie the Dragon's remnants are all picked up although I bet parts of her are still along the bottom of the shore in the river.

There have been rumors and news 'reports' that the dragon will be rebuilt since apparently someone has bought the land that Annie was on, but those reports are over a year old and I haven't seen any updates this year about putting a new dragon up at "Dragon Point".
