Harry Styles is opening up about finding his voice as a solo artist.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine published on Saturday (February 14), the "Aperture" singer detailed his experience of making music as a solo act after years spent as a unit in One Direction, which included bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne, per People.

"When you're in a band with four other people, there's so much room to hide," he said. "There's only ever so much weight that's on your shoulders. The first couple of times on stage [without One Direction], I'd think, 'What do I do with my hands?'"

It wasn't just performing on his own after 1D split in 2015 that was new but also the process of creating his own sound and the pressure he placed on himself to get it right.

"But I also felt very alone all of a sudden," he said. "I was lucky to have the opportunity where people were interested in what I was going to make, but I put a lot of that pressure on myself, wanting it to be correct."

Styles, who is preparing to drop his fourth studio album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. in March, explained how that feeling bled into the making of his 2017 debut self-titled solo album.

"With that first album, I was trying to explore what music I would make by myself, but in that moment I felt there were a lot of people who had put faith in me and I didn't want to disappoint people or let them down."

Styles isn't the only 1D alum to open up recently about life after the band. Last month, Tomlinson shared why the boyband's split was "really f---ing scary."
