Netflix debuted the trailer for Chadwick Boseman's final performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
The film, adapted from August Wilson's play, shows the "tensions rise when the trailblazing Mother of the Blues and her band gather at a Chicago recording studio in 1927." The iconic Viola Davis stars as Ma Rainey with Boseman playing her ambitious horn player.
We now know Boseman was shooting this film (and several other projects) while receiving treatment for stage III colon cancer that tragically and fatally progressed to stage VI.
Just from the trailer, I'm gonna go ahead and say ~ OSCAR BUZZ ~.
The film also features Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, Glynn Turman, Dusan Brown and Taylour Paige. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom streams on Netflix December 18.
