The King and I at the Times-Union Center
A classic from the genius minds of Rodgers and Hammerstein made its way to downtown Jax. The King and I is a musical set in 1860's Bangkok but you'd swear it was written for today.
The story revolves around the King of Siam who invites British schoolteacher Anna Leonowens to teach his (several!) wives and children. You'll see the constant struggle of female independence and hanging out to tradition while trying to move with the times.
I LOVED IT. This was my first time seeing the story on screen or stage and I was so impressed. Obviously, the music is timeless cause it's R&H, but the costumes and the dances representing Vietnamese culture are stunning!
Get your tickets ASAP cause it's only in Jax for the weekend.
