Mayo, Fla. is a real place southwest-ish of Lake City. But for now, Mayo is going by the name Miracle Whip.
It was a deal as a marketing stunt with Kraft Heinz. The town officials made the deal in secret as a prank buuut in the process, it looks like they violated a Florida law about denying access to government meetings.
Here's the original place: Kraft Heinz was gonna pay the town to change its name to Miracle Whip for something between $15,000 and $25,000. It was supposed to be a prank. Like convince the population of 1,200 that it was real and film their reactions blah blah blah.
Except the whole thing was sketchy and kinda illegal because town officials had the meetings behind closed doors to finalize the deal. That goes against Florida laws guaranteeing open access to government meetings.
So no prank AND they'll probably get fined. Whoops.
