MIAMI, FL — Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has set yet another historic milestone, officially tying Los Angeles FC winger Denis Bouanga for the most Leagues Cup goals of all-time.
Messi briefly held the solo record after netting a brilliant first-half brace during Inter Miami’s dominant 4-2 group stage victory against Atlético de San Luis. The double brought the Argentine's career tournament total to 14 goals.
However, the solo record lasted just a few hours. Later that same evening, LAFC's Denis Bouanga scored a crucial first-half goal against Liga MX giants Chivas Guadalajara, matching Messi at the top of the all-time scoring leaderboard with 14 goals of his own.
The two MLS superstars are now deadlocked at the top of the charts as the tournament enters its knockout rounds. Messi and Inter Miami will look to pull ahead this Saturday, August 8th, when they host Mexican powerhouse C.F. Monterrey at Nu Stadium.
