Baywatch and Charles In Charge star Nicole Eggert is currently battling breast cancer, and recently appeared on a very special episode of "Amy & T.J." podcast just six days after undergoing a mastectomy as part of her treatment, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Eggert shared that she was originally diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, only to find out that it was much more advanced than was originally thought later on. And as anyone who has experience with cancer knows — early detection is key. She shared of her journey so far, "It's been a roller coaster ride, it really has. I did eight months of treatment. I just had a mastectomy six days ago, and I will go back on treatment, and and then do some more imaging and see where we're at and make sure that that silly stuff didn't travel anywhere."
The actress went to explain that the most difficult part of her breast cancer battle has been the "gray area of not really knowing what's going on." She elaborated, "When I started chemo, I felt really confident because it was like, we're taking action, we're doing something, this is what I've chosen, this is how I'm going to come at it. And you know, it was a mission and it was war mode. But, when you stop and you're just like waiting, and you know all of that, it can really mess with you. So, that's that's when I have to really rely on meditation, and being happy, and reading my affirmations and really focusing on living fully and in the moment. And I'm here. I'm here and I'm fighting and I feel good. So, you know, it is what it is."
Robach, herself, shared her own experience of her breast cancer battle, explaining that she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer after receiving a mammogram on a work assignment for Good Morning America. She recalled, "I was doing it as a public service for other women who might find their breast cancer. Well, it turns out a few weeks later, I myself, on October 13th, was diagnosed ultimately with stage two invasive breast cancer, and that led to a series of doctors' visits and surgeries. But I ended up with a double mastectomy. I had six months, eight rounds of chemotherapy, I had several reconstructive surgeries, and today, 11 years later, I can proudly say that my cancer is in remission and that I've had many many blood tests over the years, and so far, so good on those tumor markers. But it is something that I will always remain vigilant about and certainly something that I will continue to advocate because other women, all the women out there, need to know."
