Lady Gaga Recruits Blackpink On Sweet Club Anthem 'Sour Candy'

Lady Gaga and Blackpink joined forces on a new jam.

Hours ahead of releasing her highly anticipated sixth studio album, Gaga unveiled her newest collaboration “Sour Candy” featuring the South Korean girl group. The record, co-produced by BloodPop and Teddy Park, is a club banger about demanding to be accepted for both the bitter and sweet parts of one’s self — and nothing less.

“I'm sour candy, so sweet then I get a little angry, yeah,” Lisa and Jennie sing in the infectious, mid-tempo chorus, with members Rosé and Jisoo joining in with lyrics in both English and Korean. Gaga takes over not before long in the refrain, singing, “I’m hard on the outside/ But if you give me time/ Then I could make time for your love.”

“Sour Candy” is the third track to arrive off the Grammy-winning artist’s new LP, Chromatica, dropping at midnight (May 29). The song follows previously-released singles “Rain On Me” featuring Ariana Grande and “Stupid Love.”

According to the Japanese entertainment website TV Groove, Gaga and Blackpink’s collaboration manifested after following each other’s music over the years.

“When I called them and asked if they wanted to write a song with me, they were so happy and motivated. It was a really exciting collaboration,” Gaga told the outlet, according to Genius. “I wanted to celebrate them because they love powerful women like us, and they also wanted to celebrate me, and we had a great time together with this song. I was excited to hear them interpret the song in Korean, and told them that the part was so creative and fun. I was impressed when I heard their singing voice. I’m a woman, really talented and proud to be the 5th member of BLACKPINK (in this song).”

As aforementioned, Chromatica is due out tonight — see the artwork below and track list here.
