Beyonce's 'Homecoming' Didn't Win A Single Emmy & The Beyhive Is Pissed

The Beyhive was not pleased about Beyoncé's snub at this year's Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Queen Bey's history-making documentary Homecoming was up for six awards including Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded); Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Non-Fiction or Reality Programming; Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special; Outstanding Music Direction; Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special; and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. However, Bey shockingly walked away empty-handed, losing in every category.

While Bey's loss was shocking enough for fans given the sheer scale of its production and all that the legendary performer put into her Coachella performance — she curated her Coachella set barely six months after giving birth to twins and spent more than 115 days preparing for the show. Fans were also taken aback by the loss due to Homecoming's competition in each category. Outstanding Variety Special went to Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool, RuPaul’s Drag Race won for Costumes, Springsteen on Broadway won for Directing, FX’s Fosse/Verdon won for Music Direction, Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette won for Writing, and Production Design went to Rent: Live.

Not only that, Bey's lost seemed to especially hurt given Homecoming's importance to the black community. As fans know, Homecoming gave an intimate look at Beyoncé’s historic 2018 Coachella performance that paid homage to America’s historically black colleges and universities. More than anything it was a cultural movement that reached a whopping 1.1 million U.S. viewers and garnered an average per-minute audience of 828,000 viewers on its launch date of April 17.

Black audiences (specifically young, black, females) were the largest demographic to watch the Netflix special. The film even set a record with its 55% black viewership in the first seven days of its release, the highest percentage for any original streaming show or movie tracked by Nielsen to date.

This isn't the first time the Emmys have snubbed Beyoncé. Bey's 2016 visual album Lemonade was nominated for two Emmys, but, it didn't win either.
