Winter is coming, just not for a while. It looks like fans of HBO's Game of Thrones are going to have to wait a long time before the eight season finally debuts. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, broke the bad news during an interview with Variety. She was asked if she was excited for 2018, which will see her star in the latest X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, when she let slip that the show will not debut until 2019:
Are you excited for next year, with âX-Men: Dark Phoenixâ and season eight of âGame of Thronesâ set to premiere?
Yeah, Iâm really excited. âGame of Thronesâ comes out in 2019. âDark Phoenixâ is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. Iâm a producer on my next movie [âGirl Who Fell From the Skyâ]. So Iâm really excited about the future.
Turner said that they are currently filming season 8, but still have "six or seven months left." The final season is only going to be 6 episodes long, but each episode will be the length of a feature film.
After the show ends, HBO still has big plans for Westeros. The network is currently developing at least five potential spin-offs. Those are reportedly going to be prequels, and will not revolve around the characters on the show.
