Netflix’s Ad Supported Viewing Is Here, But It’s Missing Some Popular Shows

Netflix’s Basic With Ads plan is here at $6.99 per month vs $15.49 for ad-free. You'd expect the library to be the same, but that's not the case. About 5% to 10% of programming is "blocked" with the Ads plan, and we're just now seeing which titles are impacted - and it's likely due to licensing restrictions. Even some Netflix "originals" fall into this.

House of Cards, Arrested Development, Peaky Blinders, New Girl, The Sinner, The Good Place, and Friday Night Lights are just a few examples of what is missing. However, it may not be the case that these shows are blocked forever. It’s likely that contractual agreements need to be revised due to the new ad revenue.

Get this... these "blocked" titles still appear in 'search', featuring a red padlock icon. Similarly to the way Prime Video shows movies and shows that need an "add-on" subscription, this is probably Netflix's way of encouraging people to upgrade.
